History
Paul Mountain Wesleyan Holiness Church formerly the Pilgrim Holiness Church was the first church to be built in the small rural district now renamed Top Mountain.

Paul Mountain Wesleyan Holiness Church is situated westward in the Parish of St. Catherine, outside the popular district of Kitson Town and is isolated from the other churches on the Eastern Jamaica District by distance.  Over the years migration of members, especially the young, has negatively impacted the growth and stability of the church.   In its early years Paul Mountain grew exponentially as many came from across the district to hear the preaching of the gospel.

The genesis of the church dates to the 1940s (exact date and year unknown) when missionaries from various countries would visit the area teaching and preaching until a steady pastor was engaged by the then District Superintendent Rev. Gersham Gray, in the form of Bro. Austin Gumps from Barbados.  The missionary was introduced to the Hamilton family, who have remained a stable force within church and community.  Mr. David Hamilton and family resided and continue to live across the road from the church building and would provide hospitality to visitors and missionaries on a consistent basis as well as giving guided tours to the occupants of the manse.

The rich history of the church compasses many pastors:
Rev. Richard Chamberlin, (District Superintendent Pilgrim Holiness)
Bro. Austin Gumps who came straight out of the then Pilgrim College which operated at Mannings Hill Road
Rev. Azadiah Reynolds
Pastor Sylvester Brown
Pastor Ionie Minott

Bro. Gladstone Powell (special worker) who stayed the longest with the congregants Pastor Aston Thomas (who also served at the Mahoe church thereafter), Pastor Sedley Hessing, Pastor Errol Scott, Bro. Ivan Chisholm – 1972 to  Sis. Thompson, Pastor Linton Howell and
Pastor Leon Aarons 2011

The planting and watering exercise by these pastors bore fruit as the church became a household name in the district and church community.  The current pastor, Pastor Leon Aarons took over leadership from Rev. Linton Howell, who was transferred to the Port Antonio church in Portland, in 2011.

General
Paul Mountain was the place for youth events such as Youth Talent Extravaganza (a talent competition among the young people across the Eastern Jamaica District).  Despite the small size of the physical structure competitors would journey from far and wide in vehicles of all sizes and types for these events of fellowship.  That was among the many things that attracted the membership and community.

Since then, Paul Mountain continues to carry its rich heritage of being the place to be for communal fellowship and preaching of the gospel.  The sound of music and preaching still rings out across the horizon like the voice crying out in the wilderness, calling people to repentance.

The Hamilton’s
Deacon Robert Hamilton and family continue to lift the banner high and reliably take care of the rich heritage of kindness left by his father Bro David Hamilton.  Deacon Hamilton, whom is the longest serving member met Ms. Adassa Hibbert, and they were married in 1964 by Rev. Gersham Gray. The couple’s faithfulness and love for God has been passed on to their children who also continue to commit themselves in proclaiming Christ to the community.

Outlook
A new era has unfolded for the church which has benefited from many inter-church partnerships over the years starting with the Papine Wesleyan Holiness Church.  New partnerships have been formed recently with the Content and Calvary Wesleyan Holiness churches to help this church community to be better aligned with the strategic vision of the Eastern Jamaica District.  This has helped to drive momentum as they work together with truth and righteousness.

Paul Mountain Wesleyan Holiness still relies on the Holy Spirit to bring the church into the right understanding and application of truth from the Bible.  There is an active Sunday School along with Mid-morning and evening worship services as well as mid-week Bible study and prayer meetings; supported by Wesleyan Women and Wesleyan Men, Wesleyan Youth, and Wesleyan Children for Missions departments.

We invite you to come worship with us as we continue to be
            “a church for everyone”.

Train up the children in the way they should go includes a good start in education and Paul Mountain Basic School was founded on that premise by the church under the leadership of Pastor Chisholm.
The well needed institution  was supported by neighboring communities. The school population grew as parents maintained it in every ways possible. Mrs. Adassa Hamilton was the principal for many years. The school is now owned by the Ministry of Education and locates at the Paul Mountain's Primary School.

How priceless is your faithful love!
People find safety in the shadow of your wings.  They eat well because there is more than enough in your house.  You let them drink from your river that flows with good things.  You have the fountain of life.  We are filled with light because you give us light.  Psalm 36:7-9
